Jawaani Jaaneman (2020) actress Alaya F has bagged the lead role in the Hindi remake of the acclaimed Kannada thriller U Turn (2016). The film, which bears the same title as the original, is being produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under their banner Cult Movies. The film will go on the floors tomorrow.
The original film was directed by Pawan Kumar and it saw Shraddha Srinath play the central character. The remake will be directed by first-time helmer Arif Khan.
U Turn told the story of Rachana (Shraddha) an intern at a newspaper. While working on an article, she learns of a flyover in Bangalore, where motorists have been removing concrete blocks that divide the road in order to take a quick U-turn and this has been a cause of regular accidents. She decides to pursue this story.
The film was also remade simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. Both versions, which came out in 2018, were directed by Pawan Kumar. Sinhala and Bengali remakes titled Careful and Flyover — helmed by VK Prakash and Abhimanyu Mukherjee — came out in 2017 and 2021 respectively. The original also has the distinction of being the first Kannada film to have a Sinhala remake.
Flyover review: Refreshing whodunnit ruined by shift in genre in the second half
The makers have shared a title teaser of the film, which comprises wide-angle shots of a busy flyover intercut with visuals of a vehicle being driven rashly.
