Kartik Aaryan and Ekta Kapoor to collaborate on romantic thriller Freddy

The film, helmed by Veere Di Wedding (2018) director Shashanka Ghosh, will go on the floors tomorrow.

It seems Kartik Aaryan is on a film-signing spree. After announcing his collaboration with Hansal Mehta for Captain India last week, the actor is set to play the lead in Ekta Kapoor's upcoming production Freddy.

The romantic thriller will be directed by Shashanka Ghosh, who had directed Veere Di Wedding (2018), starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania.

Freddy is set to go on the floors tomorrow, 1 August.

Freddy is jointly produced by Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures and Jay Shewakramani's Northern Lights Films. The film will also mark the first collaboration between Ekta Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan.

Speaking to The Times of India newspaper, Aaryan said, "As an actor, I crave to explore different facades of entertainment and with Freddy, I’m venturing into uncharted territory which is both exciting and intriguing.

"I look forward to dwelling in the world of Freddy and bringing alive this dark romantic thriller. It also marks my first collaboration with visionaries like Ekta Kapoor and creatives forces like Jayu and Shashanka. Couldn’t have asked for a better team on this new journey.”

The newspaper also quoted director Ghosh as saying, "As a filmmaker, there is a lot to play with in the thriller genre. I am more than excited to work with an incredible team on a project as inspiring as Freddy. I am sure the film will be one of the best thrilling cinematic experiences for audiences across the nation."

Producer Kapoor said in her statement, "His [director Ghosh's] choices of subject have always been unique and this one is no different. I'm excited to take the audience into this dark, delicious world. Collaborating with Jayu makes it even more special!"

Besides Freddy, Aaryan will also be seen in Ram Madhvani's Dhamaka, Anees Bazmee's Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Hansal Mehta’s Captain India and Sameer Vidwans's untitled romantic drama.
