Art director Rajesh Sapte dies by suicide

The deceased alleged that he had been harassed by one Rakesh Maurya in a video posted on social media.

Rajesh Sapte, a popular art director of Marathi films and TV shows, died by suicide at his residence in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra today morning.

He had posted a video on social media explaining why he had decided to take the drastic step, accusing Rakesh Maurya, an individual associated with a union, of harassment.

In the clip, Sapte stated, "Namaskar, my name is Raju Sapte and I am an art director. I was not intoxicated while making this video. For the past few days, I have been harassed by Rakesh Maurya of the labour union. There are no complaints against me and I have cleared all payments but Rakesh Maurya has been provoking workers even though all the payments have been cleared. Currently, I have five projects in my hand. But since Rakesh Maurya is inciting workers against me, I can't start any work. Recently, I had to give up a project for the same reason. As a protest against this, I am committing suicide today."

Sapte has worked in popular Marathi films such as Golmaal (2006), Hapoos (2010) and Takatak (2019).
