Veteran Gujarati film and theatre actor Arvind Rathod died on Thursday at his home in Ahmedabad due to age-related issues. He was 83 and was living with his nephew's wife Jagruti and her son Rhythm.
The actor had contracted the novel coronavirus a couple of months back but had recovered from it. He had been, however, bedridden for some time now.
Rathod, who worked as a photojournalist in the 1960s, made his acting debut in the Hindi film Lady Killer (1968). Later he appeared in popular Gujarati films such as Baba Ramdev Peer (1976), Raja Gopichand (1979), Shetal Tara Unda Pani (1986) and Dikrine Na Desho Koi Pardesh (2011). He was known for playing negative roles.
He also worked in a number of Hindi films such as Kora Kagaz (1974), Agneepath (1990) and Khuda Gawah (1992). He was also popular in Gujarati theatre and television shows.
Rathod was unmarried and after retiring from acting in Mumbai, he shifted to Ahmedabad with his nephew.
