The makers of Bhuj: The Pride Of India have released the song ‘Bhai Bhai’ on the occasion of the 62nd birthday of Sanjay Dutt, who features in the song.
The song gives viewers clues about his rustic character, who hails from the interiors of Bhuj. He has vowed to throw his weight behind India in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. The song takes place during a celebratory occasion in his village.
‘Bhai Bhai’ is adapted from a traditional Gujarati song ‘Bhala Mori Rama’ but this isn’t mentioned anywhere. The song was recreated quite recently in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela (2013).
This version of the song is catchy only because of Lijo George and DJ Chetas’s energetic music. Manoj Muntashir’s additional lyrics are passable, but Mika Singh’s voice doesn’t do justice to such an earthy number.
Dutt has received plenty of opportunities to display his heroism in the video. But he appears unenergetic when it comes to the dance moves and body language.
It is also odd to see machine gun-toting Pakistani soldiers making an appearance in a song sequence and Dutt combating them with his bare hands and an axe.
If the song wasn’t mediocre enough, this cringe-worthy, jingoistic line at the end makes it worse – Hindustan mahaan hai, mahaan rahega. Ek din Pakistan bhi 'Jai Hind' kahega [Hindustan is and will remain great. One day, Pakistan itself will proclaim, 'Victory to Hindustan'].
Directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya, Bhuj: The Pride Of India will be premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 13 August.
Check out the song and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
