The makers of Nyay: The Justice, a film purportedly based on the case relating to the death by suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput, are gearing up for its arrival in theatres after a Delhi high court division bench of justices Rajiv Shakdher and Talwant Singh refused to stay its release.

However, the court allowed Krishna Kishore Singh, the late actor's father, to appeal to the single bench which had earlier denied a stay on the film.

The makers had released the film on Lapalap, a local OTT app, on 11 June, the very next day after the order was passed.

Reacting to the high court's order, Rahul Sharma, one of the producers of the film, said in his statement to the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), “We believed justice would be served through the system and we are very happy with the verdict. We have always said this film is not being made to ride on the events and make money. We want the truth to come out and justice be served."

He added that the film will be released in theatres once they are reopened.

According to the legal news website LiveLaw.com, during the hearing, senior advocate Vikas Singh, who represents KK Singh, pointed out that 72 minutes are missing from the film that was released on the app and said that what was released was merely "an assortment of shooting" which cannot be termed as releasing the film.

He sought the initiation of perjury proceedings against the makers for misleading the court into thinking that the film had been released on an OTT platform.

Advocate Chander Lall, appearing for the filmmakers, maintained that the blanks were inserted to attract advertisements and the appellants cannot judge the quality of the film. He also argued that given that the first order was passed by a single judge before the film's release, any grievances related to the film following its release have to be first raised before the single judge.

Nyay has been written and directed by Dilip Gulati and stars Zuber Khan and Shreya Shukla.
