Navarasa trailer: Netflix Tamil anthology promises an emotional rollercoaster ride

The anthology is based on the nine rasas or human emotions — anger, compassion, courage, disgust, fear, laughter, love, peace and wonder.

The trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Tamil anthology Navarasa (2021), which will be premiered worldwide on 6 August, was unveiled today.

The visuals hint at the nine aesthetic flavours possessed by works of art that evoke anger, compassion, courage, disgust, fear, laughter, love, peace and wonder.

The project also marks the digital debut of actors Suriya, Arvind Swami and Vijay Sethupathi, among others.

The anthology is a one-of-its-kind initiative aimed at extending support to film workers in Tamil Nadu hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns induced by it.

It has brought together nine remarkable directors — Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, Priyadarshan, Rathindran R Prasad, Sarjun and Vasanth S Sai — to embark on a magnificent journey to bring each rasa, or emotion, to life.

Navarasa marks the reunion of Suriya and filmmaker Gautham Menon after a decade for the short titled Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru. Their story is based on the emotion of love.

While the Bejoy Nambiar-directed short is titled Ethiri and stars Vijay Sethupathi, Yogi Babu stars in Summer Of 92, a short directed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan and said to be based on a true story.

Karthick Naren’s short, a sci-fi drama, is titled Project Agni and stars Arvind Swami and Prasanna.

Atharvaa Murali stars in the short titled Thunintha Pin, which has been directed by Sarjun.

Arvind Swami makes his own directorial debut with the short titled Rowthiram, which stars Rythvika as a police officer.

In Rathindran Prasad's short Inmai, Siddharth and Parvathy join hands for the first time.

Karthik Subbaraj’s Peace is reportedly based on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam or LTTE, an extremist Tamil separatist organization that once operated in Sri Lanka, and stars Bobby Simhaa and Gautham Menon.
