Amol Palekar, Barun Sobti, Rinku Rajguru, Sahil Khattar, Saloni Batra and Upendra Limaye have been cast together in Zee5’s original film titled 200.
Directed by Sarthak Dasupta, the movie is produced by the indie banner Yoodlee Films, an arm of Saregama India Limited.
The motion poster for the film shared on Instagram shows many hands wielding a hammer and one of them breaking a handcuff.
Describing the film, the makers said in a statement, “200 is a compelling narrative chronicling the oppression and injustice suffered by Dalit women and the circumstances which led them to take a drastic step.”
Talking about Yoodlee's reason for producing the film, Siddharth Anand Kumar, vice-president, films, at Saregama, said, “At the heart of 200 is a powerful story which is real and relevant and needs to be told.
"We have always strived to make films which have an urgency and message to society. Using a true incident as the backdrop, the film sheds light on the issues of casteism and examines the very nature of justice and oppression. The film raises more questions than it answers, and we hope it will spark a debate about these important issues.”
Nimisha Pandey, head, Hindi originals, at Zee5 India, added, “Zee5 has always believed in the power of content to bring about positive change in society. 200 is a powerful story and it is important that stories like these get a platform so that they reach the world and bring to light the harsh realities that still exist.
"We are happy to collaborate with Saregama and Yoodlee Films and hope that this film reaches as many people as possible and leads to a necessary conversation.”
According to the makers, 200 will be released soon on the Zee5 OTT platform.
