The Shabana Azmi film Loins of Punjab Presents is being showcased at the Bandra Film Festival. The film will be available for viewing on the festival's YouTube channel for a month.
The hilarious satire about dreams, ambition and competition was directed by the late Manish Acharya and also starred Ajay Naidu, Jameel Khan, Ayesha Dharker and Kunal Roy Kapur.
This 86-minute-long feature film revolves around seven strangers who participate in an Indian Idol-inspired Hindi singing contest in New Jersey. The contestants include a ruthless philanthropist, a bhangra rapper, a young prodigy with an over-protective family, a reckless actress, a lovelorn businessman and an entrepreneurial yogi. The contest has been sponsored by a company, Loins Of Punjab, whose speciality is pork loins.
Talking about the film, Andrea Manath, programmer at Bandra Film Festival, said, “We are really excited to curate the classic comic caper Loins of Punjab at the Bandra Film Festival. It is a 2007 release but this film feels fresh even today. Over the past few months, we have been receiving amazing viewership for all our films and we are sure this one will have some nostalgic resonance as well."
The Bandra Film Festival, which started in March, has so far showcased feature films, documentaries and shorts.
