Amid signs of COVID cases declining in New Delhi, the state government has allowed theatres, cinema halls and bars to reopen at 50% capacity from Monday.

The reopening of cinema halls comes after three months. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Saturday allowed Delhi Metro services to be operated at full capacity. While intra-state buses will also be allowed to run full capacity, standing passengers will not be allowed.

Bars across the city can now be run at 50% capacity from 12 pm to 10 pm while auditoriums and assembly halls will also be allowed to function at half capacity.

All venues will have to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, including carrying out the vaccination of employees and sanitization after every screening as well as maintaining hygiene and safe distances between seats and crowds.

Despite the opening of cinema halls, no major Hindi film releases have been announced. There is talk that theatres in Maharashtra will follow suit in August.
