ATree Entertainment on Saturday announced the Gujarati historical drama Nayika Devi: The Warrior Queen with a teaser.

Set in the 12th century, the feature will tell the real-life events of the Chaulukya dynasty, led by Nayika Devi, or Naikidevi, who was ruling as queen regent on behalf of her son Mularaja from the capital Patan. Originally hailing from Goa, the warrior queen protected her kingdom and her son by taking on Mohmmad Ghori in battle in 1178, when he attempted to capture Gujarat.

The clip highlights the titular monarch’s mission to safeguard her kingdom and protect her child. The period drama is being produced by Umesh Sharma.

The teaser showcases the grand scale of the project, conjuring up images of soldiers clashing with each other. The brief video ends with the visual of Nayika, armed with a shield and a sword, surveying the war-torn battlefield.

The historical epic is being directed by Nitin G, who has previously helmed the Marathi film What About Savarkar? (2015) and the Telugu film Ashwamedham (2019). Although the title role of Nayika Devi hasn’t been confirmed, the ensemble cast includes Khushi Shah, Manoj Joshi, Rahul Dev, Jayesh More, Chirag Jani, Binda Rawal, Kaushambi Bhatt, Mamta Soni, Chetan Dahiya, Harry Rathod and Akash Zala.
