Siddharth and Mani Ratnam have reunited for the upcoming Netflix anthology Navarasa (2021). The actor first worked with the acclaimed filmmaker in Aayitha Ezhuthu (2004) in one of his first major projects. The film was simultaneously shot in Hindi and released as Yuva (2004) with a different star cast.
After 17 years, he will be seen in the segment titled Inmai directed by Rathindran R Prasad. The anthology depicts the nine rasas tied to Indian dance and theatre; this one will be themed on fear.
Speaking about his experience working in the film, Siddharth said, “I was very happy and excited when Mani Ratnam and [producer] Jayandra Sir offered me Inmai. It's one of the nine rasas, the word refers to something which is not there. People's curiosity will be roused when they hear the word.
“This project is a step to help the film fraternity which has been severely affected by COVID-19. It was an exciting experience working with the filmmaker Rathindran Prasad and actress Parvathy Thiruvothu."
The other segments will tackle the themes of love, laughter, anger, sorrow, courage, disgust, surprise, and peace and will be directed by Bejoy Nambiar, Priyadarshan, Karthick Naren, Vasanth S Sai, Karthik Subbaraj, Karthik Subbaraj, Sarjun, and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Produced by Madras Talkies and Qube Cinema Technologies, Navarasa is due to be released on 6 August.
