The teaser of MX Player’s upcoming Hindi web-series Chhatrasal, which was released earlier this week, focussed only on the villain, Aurangzeb, played by Ashutosh Rana. The trailer of the show properly introduces Jitin Gulati, who plays the titular Bundela Rajput king.

The story starts off in 1649 when the ruthless Mughal emperor Aurangzeb is wreaking havoc in India. After Chhatrasal’s father, Champat Rai, becomes another victim of Aurangzeb, he vows to end the Mughals' hold over the nation.

Among the rulers from whom he seeks assistance is the great Maratha ruler Shivaji. The scene where the two meets is the highlight of the trailer.

It is clear that the makers have given a lot of importance to production values, sets and costumes, resulting in eye-pleasing visuals. But they could have toned down the jingoism, which is rampant in such productions in this day and age when sensible content is considered the need of the hour, especially on OTT platforms.

Rana impresses with his ruthlessness. He is shown as a complete barbarian due to the nature of the show. Gulati might not be a familiar name to many but he shows promise in the trailer so far. The show stars Neena Gupta as the narrator.

Directed by Anadii Chaturvedi, Chhatrasal will be streamed from 29 July.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you are keen on watching the show.
