Gautham Vasudev Menon, who has made a mark in anthology projects such as Putham Pudhu Kaalai (2020), Paava Kadhaigal (2020) and Kutty Story (2021), is returning to the format with the upcoming Netflix film Navarasa (2021).
The filmmaker is joined by his contemporaries Priyadarshan, Karthik Subbaraj, Vasanth, Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthick Naren, Sarjun KM and first-timer Rathindran R Prasad. Menon is directing the segment Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru, which focuses on love, one of the nine rasas of Indian dance and theatre. The segment stars actor Suriya as Kamal while actress Prayaga Rose Martin plays Nethra.
Speaking about his latest collaboration with the actor, Gautham said, “Suriya was my first choice for this character and I don't see anybody else playing this role. I have been waiting to work with him for a very long time. This film was the best opportunity and it worked out very well.”
The actor-filmmaker continued, “Nethra comes like a breath of fresh air in Kamal’s life. She speaks in a way that creates a lasting impression in our minds. Prayaga Rose Martin has performed the character in an edgy way. The way she talks, the way she looks, the way she plays with her hair, these traits are not physical. It's all in her mind. The way she talks about music and connects with the characters is amazing. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.”
Besides love, Navarasa will also showcase the themes of laughter, anger, sorrow, courage, fear, disgust, surprise and peace. Produced by Madras Talkies and Qube Cinema Technologies, Navarasa is due to be released on 6 August on Netflix.
