Bombay Rose (2021) director Gitanjali Rao’s next venture, the animated short Tomorrow My Love, is set to make its debut at the pre-festival programme of the Locarno Film Festival on 3 August.

The film will be screened at the Piazza Grande alongside the documentary Lynx by Laurent Geslin.

The other Indian project at the Swiss festival is Irfana Majumdar’s Hindi film Shankar’s Fairies, which will have its world premiere in the Concorso Cineasti del Presente section. The 74th edition of the festival, which will open with the world premiere of the Netflix film Beckett, is being held from 4–14 August.

Rao’s recent five-minute short, which is both in colour and black-and-white, seems to be an extension of her critically acclaimed debut animation short Printed Rainbow (2006), which was premiered at the Cannes Festival in 2006.

In the award-winning short film, an old woman imagines a wondrous existence filled with colour as her partner and old cat watch. The characters from Tomorrow My Love are from the same universe.
