Hemwant Tiwari is all set to make his directorial debut in Lomad (The Fox). The 93-minute black-and-white feature film has been shot in one take. The artiste has also written and produced the film as well as played the lead role.

Lomad is about a boy and a girl, who had a relationship when they were schoolmates. They reunite more than a decade later through social media. Life has changed drastically for both of them as they are married now. However, when they meet, things aren’t the same anymore.

Tiwari said he is a fan of one-shot cinema. “When I saw Russian Ark (2002), I was blown away with the kind of dedication, patience, hard work, focus and precision that was put into creating something as magical as that film. I always wanted to do something extraordinary like Russian Ark and because the crime drama thriller is my favourite genre, I wrote a script around it and designed it in a certain way so that it can be shot in one continuous shot,” he said.

He added, “I thought of making it in a single shot because definitely it was challenging and I wanted to give the world something extraordinary with fluent performances. Lomad has twists and turns, slow-motion shots and we also have travelled in time.”

Explaining the reason for making the film in black and white, Tiwari said, “After watching Rope (1948) by Alfred Hitchcock I wanted to make this film in black and white as a tribute to the master filmmaker who tried something out of the box at that time but couldn't do so because of technical reasons. And because of that it also becomes the world’s first black-and-white one-shot film.”

Lomad is currently doing the rounds at festivals and has won quite a few awards.
