A group of terrorists attacked the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar on 24 September 2002 and held a group of devotees hostage. Zee5’s movie State of Siege: Temple Attack is a dramatized account inspired by this incident.

The trailer opens with the extremists wreaking havoc on entering the temple. They demand the extrication of one of their own in exchange for the safe release of the devotees and vow to kill a hostage every thirty minutes until their demand is met.

Akshaye Khanna, who plays an NSG commando, volunteers to finish off the terrorists and save the hostages. However, he is removed from the mission after being blamed for compromising it. But this doesn't dampen his zeal.

The trailer of State of Siege: Temple Attack is decent and promises an interesting watch. Although we have seen numerous hostage action dramas in the past, the fact that this one is based on a real incident piques your interest. Khanna, who plays a lead role after a long time, appears promising.

The trailer focuses only on Khanna while the negative characters aren’t given much importance. Also, the behaviour of the terrorists reminds us of Sunny Deol poorly aged action sagas.

This is the second offering in the State of Siege franchise. The first one, State of Siege: 26/11, was made into a series.

State of Siege: Temple Attack will be streamed on Zee5 from 9 July.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you are keen on watching the movie.
