Poster of Payal Kapadia’s A Night of Knowing Nothing revealed

The film is being premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival.

The makers of Payal Kapadia’s A Night of Knowing Nothing have shared the image of the film’s poster on Facebook.

The caption, translated from the French, reads, “We're very excited to share Payal Kapadia's magnificent poster of A Night of Knowing Nothing which will have its world premiere on Thursday at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs!”

The poster has been designed by Suranjay Mandal and the world premiere of the film is taking place at the Directors' Fortnight section of the ongoing Cannes Film Festival 2021. The film is also in competition for the Œil d'or award, and the Caméra d'or award.

The synopsis describes the film as being about a university student in India, who writes letters to her estranged lover, while he is away. Through these letters, we get a glimpse into the drastic changes taking place around her. Merging reality with fiction, dreams, memories, fantasies and anxieties, an amorphous narrative unfolds.

An alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Kapadia’s films have been featured at the festival earlier, with her short film Afternoon Clouds (2016) premiering at Cinefondation. Her next project, All We Imagine As Light has been supported by Ciclic and Hubert Bals Fund and is currently in development.
