Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani's Shershaah to be premiered on 12 August on Amazon Prime

The makers announced the release date on Twitter on Thursday along with a teaser that features the actor as the late captain Vikram Batra.

Vishnu Varadhan's film on the fallen war hero captain Vikram Batra, Shershaah, is set to arrive on Amazon Prime Video on 12 August.

The makers announced the release date on Twitter on Thursday along with a teaser that features Sidharth Malhotra as Batra whose code name was Shershaah during the Kargil War in 1999.

The project is being backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

The teaser begins with footage of the conflict and a voiceover, which states that the Kargil conflict — which was fought between India and Pakistan from May to July 1999 — was the first televised Indian war and it led to the creation of a new generation of heroes in the subcontinent. The teaser also shows a glimpse of the young Batra and mentions the rallying cry of his platoon 'Yeh Dil Maange More''.

After succumbing to battle wounds, Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military decoration for valour on the battlefield, by the Indian government.

It is towards the end of the teaser that Malhotra is introduced as Batra. The actor looks striking as a clean-cut young officer who is setting out on the warpath.

The film was supposed to be out on 3 July 2020. However, the pandemic and closure of theatres delayed the film's release. The makers have now decided to release the film on the Independence day weekend of 12 August.
