The organizers of the Bandra Film Festival (BFF) have created a new section, Silent Crimes, under which the Telugu feature film Vanaja (2006), the Hindi short film Tipu and the Bengali short film Crash will be screened.

Explaining the reason for creating the section, a statement from the BFF read, 'Crimes which we see happening in our daily lives, some which we ignore to speak against or worse still stay mute allowing it to happen (sic).'

Tipu

Vanaja is about a girl trying to find her worth amid casteism and physical abuse. Tipu is the story of a six-year-old transgender child who is sent to live with the transgender community by his own family. Crash looks at the impact of road accidents on its victims.

Speaking about the initiative, Namrata Grewal, marketing and communications chief at the BFF, said, “Silent Crime is an interesting term because it’s not a cut-and-dried genre to define, like, say, ‘comedy’ or ‘horror.’ That means there are crimes going on that are not acknowledged, ignored or, worse still, hushed up by society's apathy. This is a genre which will keep the audiences hooked to their screens.”

Crash

She added, “BFF programmed this new thematic line-up so that our audiences can continue to have the opportunity to watch a wide range of films from the comfort of their homes. In the coming days more movies will be added.”

The festival is presented by online distribution company FilmKaravan in collaboration with YouTube. The films can be watched free on the BFF YouTube channel.
