Actor Chinmay Mandlekar took to Facebook today to share the new poster for his upcoming historical film Pawankhind.

The poster sees Ajay Purkar as the Maratha general Baji Prabhu Deshpande standing on top of a pile of corpses of Adilshahi troops. Mandlekar looms in the background as Chhatrapati Shivaji.

The film is based on the battle of Ghodkhind, a narrow mountain pass near modern-day Kolhapur city, where 600 Maratha soldiers led by Baji Prabhu Deshpande made their last stand, holding off 10,000 Bijapuri troops led by Siddi Masud long enough for Shivaji, who had slipped out from captivity in Panhala fort, to reach the safety of Vishalgad. The pass came to be known as Pawankhind, or Sacred Pass, in memory of those who gave their lives defending it.

Pawankhind is the third film in Lanjekar's series of 17th century period films after Farzand (2018) and Fatteshikast (2019). It also stars Akshay Waghmare, Astad Kale, Mrinal Kulkarni, Harish Dudhade, Ankit Mohan and Prajakta Mali.

Pawankhind was earlier titled Jungjauhar, but the makers changed the title a few months ago. Interestingly, director Abhijeet Deshpande has also announced a film on the same subject, titled Paavan Khind.
