Abhinay Deo’s Delhi Belly (2011) has turned ten years old. The Aamir Khan production, which stars the actor's nephew Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Vir Das, revolves around three roommates and a package.

To commemorate the occasion, Deo has announced that he has begun work on another quirky film “of a genre similar to that of Delhi Belly”.

The project is in the writing stage, and the filmmaker said, in a statement, that he hopes to shoot it next year. "It's not often that filmmakers take the risk to stray from a stereotypical story format and experiment with something new. It takes guts to be involved in the making of a movie like Delhi Belly. We were lucky to be backed by a producer like Aamir Khan, who paved a way for filmmakers like us that could revolutionalize the movie market in India. Not to forget getting a chance to work with actors like Imran, Kunaal, and Vir who had their charisma and charm to draw the audience. This genre is my all-time favourite," said Deo.

According to the statement, the upcoming project will not be a sequel to Delhi Belly.

In an interview with the channel CNN News 18, Deo revealed an interesting piece of trivia about the film. "Aamir Khan wanted to play Kunaal Roy Kapur's role but he was too well built because he was preparing for Ghajini (2008) at the time. There was no way Aamir Khan would have worked for that role, and he knew it too. But he really wanted to be a part of this film so we wrote this character called Disco Fighter specifically for him," said Deo.

Meanwhile, comedian-actor Vir Das on Wednesday went down memory lane, revealing that he had landed the film after five auditions. “It was like my fifth audition for this crazy movie over two years. The first time the three of us read together. It just felt right. Eventually, we joined a set with a special feeling, that we were making madness that we may never get to again,” wrote the comedian.
