The Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), which is being held from 8-15 January 2021, is among the first such events in India to be organised in a hybrid format since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
The inauguration ceremony for the festival will be attended by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who had tweeted about the festival being held on a smaller scale this year and that amid the several challenges posed by the pandemic, the show must go on.
Together we will overcome this pandemic. But the show must go on. We are going ahead with #KIFF 2021 virtually, on a smaller scale. Glad that my brother @iamsrk will join us virtually at the inaugural event on Jan 8, 4pm. Watch Kolkata International Film Festival live

As reported by The Times of India newspaper, the virtual inauguration ceremony will also include a short film, Journey of a Legend, dedicated to legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who passed away in 2020. The film has been directed by Premendu Bikas Chaki and will capture the personal and professional facets of the actor.
