Sonu Sood, who was a real-life hero to labourers, students and farmers amid the lockdown last year, will play a ploughman in E Niwas's film Kisaan, which will be produced by Dream Girl (2019) director Raaj Shaandilyaa.

The announcement was made by Shaandilyaa, who launched his home production, ThinkInk Picturez, with the film.

E Niwas last helmed the series Your Honor, which is being streamed on SonyLiv. The director's last feature film was the 2014 comedy Total Siyapaa

Sood was last seen in Hindi cinema in Rohit Shetty's Simmba (2018). The actor has been in the news for his acts of philanthropy throughout the lockdown period, which have earned him praise. While the actor made his mark playing the villain in the hit Dabangg (2010), he admitted in an IANS report that he was being offered positive roles in light of his philanthropy.

Sood was congratulated by Amitabh Bachchan on Twitter after the news of the film came out.
