Tribhanga trailer: Kajol confronts her past in this engrossing family drama

The drama, written and directed by Renuka Shahane, delves into family secrets and focuses on three generations of women.

Actress Renuka Shahane’s first film in Hindi, Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy (2021), features three generations of women who unite when one of them falls gravely ill. With her mother in a coma, Kajol’s character, Anuradha Apte, is forced into close contact with her.

The classical dancer, who is nursing trauma, has been estranged with her mother Nayan (Tanvi Azmi), a well-known Marathi litterateur, for a while but her condition forces her to re-examine key events in her life. Anu’s daughter Masha (Mithila Palkar) also comes to be with her grandmother during the medical emergency.

Meanwhile, Kunaal Roy Kapur plays someone who is documenting the life of Nayan and wants Anu to share her side as well. Will the broken family finally heal and move on?

The title makes reference to “an Odissi dance pose that is asymmetrical, yet mesmerising”, according to a press release. Shahane’s feature certainly seems to tackle these issues head-on, and the secrets of Anu’s past seem to be rather dark as well. Besides the actresses, Tribhanga also stars Kanwaljeet Singh, Manav Gohil and Vaibhav Tatwawaadi.

Tribhanga is due to be released on Netflix on 15 January 2021. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to see the film.
