As a director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for making films, especially love stories, rooted in Indian history and culture. Films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018) are examples of earthy stories told by him.
But as a producer, Bhansali has explored contemporary or modern romantic tales like My Friend Pinto (2011) and Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (2012). Now we can add Tuesdays & Fridays to the list.
Tuesdays & Fridays is an urban tale in which Varun (Anmol Thakeria Dhillon) meets Sia (Jhataleka Malhotra), who are described as ‘restless souls’. They find some connection but are unsure about their feelings for each other. So, Sia devises a plan according to which they should go on a date every Tuesday and Friday. Their unusual relationship brings excitement as well as disappointment.
Thakeria Dhillon and Malhotra, both making their acting debut, appear confident in their first on-screen appearance. The film appears colourful and high on production value, something we have come to expect from Bhansali’s productions.
The trailer has its share of funny moments but at the same time lacks uniqueness. The film appears like any other formulaic romantic comedy where a guy and a girl meet, have feelings for each other but then drift apart. We all know what is going to happen in the end.
Tuesdays & Fridays is written and directed by first-time filmmaker Taranveer Singh and is slate for release on the weekend after Valentine's Day, 19 February. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you would be keen to watch the film.
