KGF: Chapter 2 set to be released on 16 July

The makers of KGF: Chapter 2 have finally revealed the film’s release date. The film, starring Yash and Sanjay Dutt, will hit the theatres on 16 July. The news was shared by both actors on Twitter.

The film is a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster hit KGF: Chapter 1, KGF referring to Kolar Gold Fields. The first film, directed by Prashanth Neel, saw Kannada star Yash play a gangster named Rocky who is hungry for power. This hunger brings him to the gold mines of Kolar where bigger challenges await him. 

The first film saw Srinidhi Shetty star opposite Yash. KGF: Chapter 2, which is also directed by Prashanth Neel, sees the inclusion of Sanjay Dutt as the dreaded villain, Adheera. Last year Dutt had compared his character to that of Thanos from the iconic Hollywood franchise Avengers.

“The character of Adheera in KGF is very powerful," Dutt told the Press Trust of India news agency. "If you have seen Avengers, you know how powerful Thanos is. Adheera is as powerful as him. In KGF’s first chapter, Adheera comes in only at the end, but in the second chapter, he has a very strong presence and get-up. This is the character I was looking for, and it has come to me.”
