National Award-winning filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly has commenced shooting for his debut Hindi film Manohar Pandey, starring Raghuvir Yadav, Saurav Shukla and Supriya Pathak. To be mostly shot in North Bengal, the 130-minute-long romantic drama is set in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the maker of acclaimed films such as Shabdo (2013) and Nagarkirtan (2019), Manohar Pandey has universal appeal. As per a press release, Ganguly said, “It’s a film that speaks the language of the middle class and lower-income groups and touches upon the stigmas and agonies associated with a pandemic that wreaked havoc in the world.”

He further added, “I will include real-life incidents and the common man’s experiences that I was privy to in the wake of COVID-19.”

Pathak, on the other hand, found the script, which is “pivoted on an extramarital affair of a middle-aged married couple in the midst of a modern plague”, to be wonderful and is looking forward to shooting for the film.

Shukla is all set to start 2021 on a positive note with Manohar Pandey. The actor was reportedly approached by Ganguly last November. “He wanted to cast me in his forthcoming venture and I was beyond delighted,” said the actor.

While speaking to the Times of India newspaper, the actor said, “It is lovely to work with Kaushik. But sadly, I can’t reveal anything about my character other than the fact that it is an interesting role. Raghu Bhai is already here for the shoot while Supriya Ji will join the team after two days.”

Yadav is certain that the script is so relatable and practical that it will win the hearts of the audience. He also expressed his gratitude for Ganguly and is looking forward to living up to his expectations.
