Bhagat Singh, who was hanged by the British government for avenging the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, was considered an inspiration to Sardar Udham Singh. It was Bhagat Singh and his comrades' direct action that influenced Sardar Udham Singh's decision to travel to England to assassinate Michael O'Dwyer, the lieutenant governor of Punjab during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
The Times of India newspaper quoted a source saying that Sircar cast Parashar to play Bhagat Singh 'as a sharp and intelligent young man who had a lightness to him at the same time'. Parashar is the fourth actor to play the legendary revolutionary after Manoj Kumar (Shaheed, 1965), Ajay Devgn (The Legend of Bhagat Singh, 2002), Bobby Deol (23rd March 1931: Shaheed, 2002), Siddharth (Rang De Basanti, 2006).
Parashar was recently seen in the film Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (2020) alongside Konkona Sensharma and Bhumi Pednekar. This will be the actor's first attempt at playing a historical figure.
Shooting completed for the project in early February 2020 and it is likely to be released later this year. The film was initially scheduled to be released on 15 January 2021.
