Cinestaan Storytellers Contest's third winner Satyen Bordoloi’s script gets made in Telugu

Satyen K Bordoloi won third prize in the first edition of Cinestaan India Storytellers Contest, which was held in 2018, for his script, Who Will Marry Thomas? A Telugu film on his script just went on the floors yesterday. 

The film, whose Telugu title is Korangi Nunchi, will see Telugu actor Vikranth play the titular role. The movie is being directed by first-time director K Jayadev, son of the National Award-winning filmmaker KNT Shastry. It stars veteran actress K Archana as Thomas’ mother.

Korangi Nunchi is one of the new slate of films produced under the banner of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). 

Talking about the story, Jayadev said in a statement, “Who Will Marry Thomas? is based on true incidents. In fact, this story is based on a news article published in The Hindu newspaper. I have been toying on this idea for over seven years. Developed the story, got the screenplay done. The screenplay went on win Cinestaan India Storytellers Contest (third prize).”

He added, “I am grateful that NFDC has approved the script and decided to produce it. The Telugu feature film has an interesting cast that includes Archana, Vikranth, Banerjee, Nagineedu, Katta Anthony, Anandhi, Anirudh Singh and Kowsalya.” 

Speaking about the project, cinematographer Madhu Ambat said, “With years into filmmaking and watching cinema over the generations, it has been a long journey and working with NFDC has always been a homecoming. Looking forward to a joyful time doing what I love the most and my best wishes to the young talented Jayadev for his debut feature.” 

Deepti Chawla, head of distribution and marketing at NFDC, said there is a reason why watching content in Indian languages is on the rise.
"Production of localized and regional content has always been part of NFDC’s mandate. With Korangi Nunchi we want to entertain the targeted region and tell a story to the audience that can relate to it and enjoy it,” she said.
