While Soumitra Chatterjee’s ardent admirers and fellow artistes are yet to get over his unfortunate demise on 15 November last year, filmmaker Parambrata Chatterjee celebrated the legendary artiste’s 86th birth anniversary yesterday by revealing glimpses of his upcoming biographical film Abhijaan.

The actor-turned-director shared the teaser of the film, which was one of the last films in which the legend appeared. Featuring Jisshu Sengupta, Qaushiq Mukherjee, Basabdatta Chatterjee, Sohini Sengupta and the director himself, Abhijaan traces the illustrious journey of the cultural icon.

The teaser begins with Soumitra reciting of a few lines that define his journey as an artiste, who celebrated the act of creation and worshipped work throughout his life. The monochrome visuals see Sengupta enact Soumitra’s journey, which is juxtaposed with recent footage of Soumitra is in colour.

Mukherjee, as iconic filmmaker Satyajit Ray, seems like a revelation.

The rest of the teaser is filled with Jisshu bringing to life the artiste’s offscreen and onscreen moments as Apu, Feluda, Sandip Mukherjee from Ghare Baire (1984) and Amal from Charulata (1964) as well. The teaser ends with a tribute highlighting the artists' storied attention to detail and quest for perfection in every field he chose to explore.

The teaser shares glimpses of the research work Parambrata had done as a director in his attempt to capture the vast expanse of the artiste's creative endeavours. Prabuddha Banerjee's orchestral background score in the teaser lends a vintage feel and leaves us with no doubt that Soumitra's entire life was itself nothing less than a work of art.
