Actor Vijay’s Tamil film Master has become the first Indian film of 2021 to get a Twitter emoji ahead of its release in theatres on 13 January.

This will be the third Vijay film to get a Twitter emoji after Bigil (2019) and Mersal (2017).

Master will become the first major pan-Indian release of the year when it hits the screens in time for the Pongal festival. The film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, will be released in four languages, including Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

Master features Vijay in the role of a college professor with a violent past. It also stars Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist.

Master, which also stars Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Andrea Jeremiah, has been produced by Xavier Britto and marks the maiden collaboration of Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Last year, the makers repeatedly scotched rumours that the film would skip a theatrical release and go directly onto an OTT platform. Reports even emerged of Amazon Prime Video offering a deal worth Rs125 crore for an exclusive release. But this rumour was laid to rest by executive producer Lalit.
