Sharmaji Namkeen is being directed by first-time filmmaker Hitesh Bhatia and produced by Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment.
Earlier, co-producer Honey Trehan had told the Mid-Day newspaper that the film would be completed using 'advanced technology and VFX'.
Rishi Kapoor had shot for most of his portions in January last year and the producers were planning to shoot the rest in March, but that plan had to be scrapped on account of the countrywide lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19. Rishi Kapoor's last on-screen appearance was in The Body (2019).
Sharmaji Namkeen also stars Juhi Chawla and actor Gufi Paintal. The team is ready to resume shooting soon and hopes to release the film on 4 September, Rishi Kapoor's birth anniversary.
