Netflix’s The Girl On The Train, starring Parineeti Chopra, will be released on 26 February. The film, which is an adaptation of Paula Hawkins’s book of the same name, was supposed to see the light of day on 8 May 2020 but its makers could not meet the deadline owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, The Girl On The Train also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Kirti Kulhari.
The makers have come out with the teaser in which Chopra is seen going through a series of events that leave her physically and mentally scarred. The actress plays the character of Meera, who resides in Europe. One day, she notices something out of the ordinary during her daily commute that shocks her. The film details her trials and tribulations as she attempts to find out the truth.
Dasgupta said in a statement that he had always wanted to explore the thriller genre. "There is plenty to relate to both in terms of the emotions and mysteries that I was able to delve into in this thriller — rejection, loneliness, voyeurism and daily commutes on which we see and don’t see things,” he said.
The filmmaker said working on the film was an extremely fruitful experience and collaborating with Netflix is always incredible. "Hope the audience will be as excited watching The Girl On The Train as I was making it,” he said.
Shibashish Sarkar, the chief executive officer of Reliance Entertainment, which has produced the project, said, “The Girl On The Train marks our first film collaboration with Netflix, with many more to come! We are very excited about this suspense thriller, Ribhu’s directorial sensibilities and the extremely talented cast.”
The book has also been adapted by director Tate Taylor. Starring Emily Blunt, Haley Bennett and Rebecca Ferguson, the film was a critical and commercial success.
