Politics makes for strange bedfellows they say, and R Parthiban and Vijay Sethupathi make for stranger ones in Tughlaq Durbar's latest teaser. The two play political rivals who are out to destroy each other. Vijay plays a trickster, hinting at a dual personality or a dual role.
The film also features Manjima Mohan, Karunakaran and Samyuktha.
Sharply cut, the teaser serves its purpose by propping up Vijay as the key player in this political drama. The actor, who plays the wildcard, smiles wickedly and feigns innocence as he turns the screws on his political rival, Parthiban. "He is someone unknown, yet he knows everything about us," Parthiban says, "Who could he be?"
The teaser captures the action-packed nature of the film, as well as its intriguing storyline. Parthiban is well cast as the rough-hewn politician who faces a threat from the sly Vijay. Manjima's role is unclear, but the teaser shows that her abduction is a key moment in the film.
The title refers to a famous play by Cho Ramaswamy, which satirizes the whimsical decisions of dictators. In this film, the title seems to hint at the ups and downs that take place in a political party.
Tughlaq Darbar is being directed by Delhiprasad Deenadayalan and is set to be released later this year.
