Actress Richa Chadha, who is awaiting the release of her upcoming political drama Madam Chief Minister, has shared a series of wig trial pictures from the look test for her character on Twitter. The actress, who sports a mushroom cut in the film, portrays a young Dalit woman who becomes a chief minister.
Revealing the reason behind opting for a wig instead of cutting her hair, Chadha wrote, "There is a cute little anecdote behind why I had to wear a wig. The director ideally wanted me to chop my hair and I was ready for it. He wanted a powerful, fuss-free haircut that suited the character. But it was just around then that the date for our marriage got fixed. I realized I would have a mushroom cut by the time it was April 2020, if I had chopped off my hair for the part. Something I have hated since childhood is the mushroom cut. The director very kindly consented for me to use a wig, these are the various wigs we tried for Madam CM (sic)."

Her short hair has been a talking point among cinephiles on social media especially because of her uncanny resemblance to former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati.
Recently Chadha faced flak on social media, with some netizens accusing the film of "caste appropriation". Many also questioned the makers' decision not to cast a Dalit actor when basically the film is about the community's struggle.
Madam Chief Minister has been directed by Jolly LLB (2013) and Jolly LLB 2 (2017) helmer Subhash Kapoor. The film also stars Akshay Oberoi, Manav Kaul and Saurabh Shukla. The film is slated to be released in theatres on 22 February.
