Actor Rajiv Kapoor, the younger brother of the legendary Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, died in Mumbai on Tuesday. He was 58.
The actor, who experienced a massive heart attack, was rushed to the Inlaks Hospital in Chembur, which is close to his residence. Speaking with the Times of India newspaper, Randhir Kapoor said, "The doctors tried their best but they could not save him."
The news of Rajiv Kapoor's demise was confirmed by sister-in-law Neetu Kapoor, who shared an image on Instagram.
Rajiv Kapoor was the youngest of Raj Kapoor's sons. His death came as another blow to the family which lost Rishi Kapoor last year.
Known as Chimpu, Rajiv Kapoor began his career as an assistant to Raj Kapoor in films such as Prem Rog (1982) before shifting to acting in Ek Jaan Hain Hum (1983). He gained fame with his performance in Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985). He also directed Rishi Kapoor in Prem Granth (1996). The actor was expected to make a comeback in the film industry with Toolsidas Junior (2021).
The Kapoor family gathered at the actor's residence in Chembur to pay their respects.
