The Girl On The Train song 'Chhal Gaya Chhalaa': Sukhwinder Singh saves this standard heartbreak ballad

The lyrics by Kumaar are simple and to the point. However, they fail to make a mark emotionally.

Parineeti Chopra sheds light on the demons that plague her character from The Girl On The Train in the first song of the film, 'Chhal Gaya Chhalaa'.

The song, which was composed by Sunny Inder and sung by the energetic Sukhwinder Singh, begins with scenes of a troubled Mira Kapoor (Parineeti Chopra) recklessly drowning her sorrows in a pub. Even as her friends seem to be enjoying themselves, Mira appears to be weighed down by personal tragedy. Furthermore, she happens to spot the husband of her muse (Aditi Rao Hydari) two-timing her, which triggers her.

The song is a Punjabi folk ballad about heartbreak and sorrow. While it is set in a hi-tech nightclub, the composition eschews modern percussion or orchestration. Add Sukhwinder Singh's vocals to the mix and you have a decent track. However, the composition does not catch you off-guard its rhythm or style. In that, it becomes just another song. The lyrics by Kumaar are simple and to the point. However, they fail to make a mark emotionally or through imagery. On the whole, the song is interesting and worth listening to once but it does not make a mark.

The film, which was directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, is set to be released on Netflix on 26 February 2021.
