The online distribution company FilmKaravan has launched a digital event, Bandra Film Festival, in collaboration with YouTube.

The organizers will screen more than 50 films from filmmakers across the country and across multiple genres, languages and formats at the festival, which is scheduled to take place later this month. These films can be viewed on the Bandra Film Festival YouTube channel.

The festival will open with Frozen (2007), a movie directed by Shivajee Chandrabhushan starring Danny Denzongpa, Aamir Bashir and Yashpal Sharma; and Arati Kadav's offbeat drama Uss Par (2013) starring Jackie Shroff and Ovi Dixit.

The festival will also help viewers contribute funds to support the films and filmmakers of their choice in light of the ongoing pandemic.

All the films showcased will be categorized into three broad sections: ‘Gems from the Past’, which will unearth and showcase these hidden gems; 'Off the Beaten Path’, which will include experimental films that are not confined to traditional storytelling methods; and ‘New Discoveries’, which will have new films from a fresh new talented crop of filmmakers.

Speaking about the launch, Pooja Kohli Taneja, artistic director of Bandra Film Festival, said, “For the past 15 years we have curated and distributed content. Many titles didn’t fit the requirements of the online platforms and went unnoticed. This gave us a reason and chance to create a new platform to amplify the undiscovered and forgotten gems from the past as well to showcase new talent emerging every day.”
