The metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai ordered the Mumbai police on Friday to submit a progress report on their inquiry into Kangana Ranaut's tweets, based on a complaint filed back in November 2020.
The actress and her sister Rangoli Chandel were named in a plea regarding spreading communal disharmony.
Following the complaint and plea, the magistrate's court had ordered that an FIR be registered against both sisters. The complainant had requested the court to book the siblings under section 153 A of the Indian Penal Code (promoting enmity between communities), section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings) and sedition (section 124), among sections.
The police, however, sought more time to complete the probe today. Following this, the court granted the police time till 4 March to complete the inquiry and present the report.
Recently, Twitter censored two of the actress's tweets, including her response to pop star Rihanna, on Twitter.
The social media platform later released a statement that read, "We have taken action on the tweets that were in violation of the Twitter rules in line with our range of enforcement options."
The actress is also currently embroiled in a defamation suit involving lyricist Javed Akhtar, among other cases.
