Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivi to clash with Bunty Aur Babli 2

Kangana Ranaut revealed the release date of the late Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa’s biopic, Thalaivi, on Wednesday, the leader's birth anniversary. The film, in which the actress portrays Jayalalithaa, will be released on 23 April. 

Ranaut took to Twitter to share a video announcing the release date of the film and wrote, “To Jaya Amma, on her birth anniversary. Witness the story of the legend, Thalaivi, in cinemas on 23 April 2021.” 

Directed by AL Vijay, Thalaivi also stars Arvind Swami, Priyamani and Bhagyashree. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. 

By opting to release the film on this day, Thalaivi will now be clashing with Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2, which is also slated to arrive in theatres on 23 April this year. 

The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh. The film's predecessor, which was released in 2005, starred Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji as Bunty and Babli. Their characters are returning in the sequel but Bachchan has been replaced by Khan. 

Bunty Aur Babli was directed by Shaad Ali but the sequel will be helmed by Varun V Sharma.
