Lara Dutta and Prateik Babbar cast in Lionsgate Play's Casual remake

Lara Dutta Bhupathi and Prateik Babbar have been cast in the remake of the hit American television comedy-drama series Casual for the OTT platform Lionsgate Play. The remake will be helmed by Kunal Kohli and is the first local original production for Starz and Lionsgate Play in India. 

The original series, featuring Michaela Watkins, Tomy Dewey, and Tara Lynn Barr, ran on Hulu from 2015 to 2018. The series, which revolves around a newly divorced woman living with her brother and her daughter, was produced by Lionsgate Television.  

The Starzplay streaming platform was launched in 2018, while the Lionsgate Play was launched in 2020.

The series is part of the first slate of originals for Lionsgate Play. In a statement quoted by Variety magazine, Lionsgate Television Group chairman, Kevin Biggs said, "The launch of Lionsgate Play’s first slate of original series in India is the next logical step in the continued rapid growth of the platform. Our ability to kick off the Lionsgate Play original slate with the remake of a great intellectual property like Casual, with a renowned director and world-class stars, shows what we can achieve through the continued collaboration of our Starz, Lionsgate Television and Lionsgate India businesses."
