The Danny Denzongpa-starrer film Frozen (2007) will be the opening film at the Bandra Film Festival (BFF) on 25 February, which happens to be the actor’s 73rd birthday.

Sharing his reaction to the film’s screening, Denzongpa said in a statement, “It’s great that there is this platform. It’s like a hidden gem which showcases cinema from the past that now the people can watch.”

Directed by Shivajee Chandrabhushan, Frozen tells the story of Karma (Denzongpa), a jam maker who resides in a remote village in the Himalayas with his daughter Lasya (Gauri Kulkarni) and son Chomo (Angchuk). Their mundane life gets affected by the tensions in the area, which forces the army to surround their house. Shilpa Shukla plays Karma’s late wife. The film also stars Yashpal Sharma, Aamir Bashir and Anuradha Baral.

Looking back at the film, which was shot more than a decade ago, Denzongpa added, “It was an adventurous and pleasant experience shooting in Ladakh in the dead of winter! My father was one of the head monks in a monastery in Sikkim. Living and observing him helped me portray this character very easily. The body language, chanting mantras and praying all have come from him. The slight Ladakhi accent came from my local speech teacher and interactions with the local assistants and crew members.”

The BFF is an online film festival held in collaboration between FilmKaravan and YouTube. Actor Abhay Deol is on the advisory board of the festival.
