The Malayalam remake of Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s much-appreciated film Konttho will star Jayasurya, Manju Warrier and Sshivada. While the film was announced on 13 February, Warrier recently shared the poster of the film, which is titled Meri Awaz Suno, on Instagram.

The popular Bengali film, which is being produced by Windows Production House, starred Mukherjee, Paoli Dam and Jaya Ahsan.

Konttho tells the story of the indomitable spirit of RJ Arjun Mullick, played by Mukherjee, who loses his voice due to laryngeal cancer. However, despite this setback, he refuses to give up on his passion and relearns how to speak with the help of an equally determined voice therapist (Ahsan).

“It is gratifying to see our content resonating with an audience beyond geographical boundaries and breaking the barriers of language,” said Mukherjee while commenting on the announcement. He added, “Konttho is extremely close to our hearts as the story is emotionally binding and impactful. We are glad that the film has successfully created a mark and is now set to reach even a wider audience.”

The impact of the film’s celebration of the human spirit has not only been confined to the entertainment sector. Inspired by the film, the Karnataka government's department of differently abled and senior citizens and a Bengaluru-based medical start-up have joined forces to start an online laryngectomy club, Konttho Club, to empower patients who lost their voices after undergoing surgery.
