Roohi song 'Panghat': Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma woo a ghostly Janhvi Kapoor in this catchy song

Composed by Sachin-Jigar, the song has been sung by Asees Kaur and features a rap interlude by Mellow D.

The horror-comedy genre is the flavour of the season, and the first such film to arrive in theatres this year will be Hardik Mehta's Roohi. The first song from the film, Panghat, captures the hip, fun nature of the film quite well. Sung by Asees Kaur, with a rap interlude by Mellow D, the song is definitely one for the curtailed wedding season this year.

The video of the song is centred on two suitors, played by Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma, attempting to woo their ghostly bride, Janhvi Kapoor. The trio is well-matched. Sharma brings in the comic element, while Rao gets to show off his dancing skills. Kapoor adds to the glamour quotient, perhaps looking too good considering her spooky character.

The production design plays heavily on the haunted mansion trope but the quality of the visuals don't undermine the composition playing in the background.

The song by Sachin-Jigar is a foot-tapping number. It certainly has the right tempo and suits the folksy theme of the film. The lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya are wonderful and hummable. It is Asees Kaur's voice that carries the song, as she vocalizes the supernatural entity as it seduces, and warns, her suitors. Mellow D's rap break is a fun segment that thankfully does not overpower the main track. With its catchy beat and hook, the song is a good start.
