Netflix India on Monday announced that Dhanush’s upcoming Tamil action-drama Jagame Thandiram will be premiered directly on its platform. The announcement was made while unveiling the film’s teaser.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Jagame Thandhiram is the first mainstream Tamil film to skip theatres and be released directly on an OTT platform.

Dhanush plays a character called Suruli, a small-time gangster from Madurai. By the end of the teaser, we see that he has joined a gang in London.

Jagame Thanthiram, which marks the maiden collaboration of Dhanush and Karthik, has been predominantly shot in London apart from a few other places in the United Kingdom.

On the completion of the project, Dhanush had tweeted: “That’s a wrap for D 40. One of the quickest films I have done. It was a pleasure to work with such a quirky, sensible and visionary filmmaker like Karthik Subbaraj. This one is going to be special.”

The film was originally supposed to be released in cinemas in April 2020. However, it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While Aishwarya Lekshmi plays the leading lady, the supporting cast also includes Games of Thrones and Braveheart actor James Cosmo as well as Kalaiarasan and Joju George.
