The writer took to Instagram, writing, "It is an incredible pleasure and honour to tell the story of someone so ahead of her times, a leader, an icon of progressiveness, a true feminist and oh, also one of the most beautiful women in the world — the mesmerising Maharani Gayatri Devi."

Maharani Gayatri Devi was the wife of the last ruler of the Jaipur State, Sawai Man Singh II. Following India's independence and the abolition of the princely states, she entered politics. As the leader of the Swatantra Party, she fought elections for 12 years in opposition to the ruling Congress party. As a princess, she was once voted by Vogue magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful women in the world.

The Instagram post also shared a statement from the grandchildren of Gayatri Devi, Maharaj Devraj Singh and Rajkumari Lalitya, which read, "We are excited to see the life of our grandmother Maharani Gayatri Devi getting translated into a drama series by Juggernaut Productions and Pranjal Khandhdiya. We believe that her life story should be told by people who are truly passionate about her; and whose vision is to create the show on a grand scale. We hope that they will do justice to inspire millions of audiences especially the younger generation who will get to learn about her life story and the older generations the world over who will get to recount her legend."

Iyer also wrote Lootera (2013), Raazi (2018) and the Amazon Prime series, Breathe: Into The Shadows (2020). The series is being researched and developed by Kausar Munir. It has not yet been confirmed which OTT platform the series will be streamed on.
