Filming for the romance film, which was written by Himanshu Sharma, wrapped up at the end of 2020.

Now that theatres are now operating at 100% seating capacity, Hindi filmmakers are slowly but steadying announcing this year’s theatrical releases. On Friday, the makers of Bell Bottom, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui and Luv Ranjan's untitled film with Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor announced their dates. Joining them was Aanand L Rai whose romance Atrangi Re (2021) will now be released on 6 August.

The love triangle film, which stars Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan, was announced last January and was supposed to be released on Valentine’s Day this year. Shooting for the film began in March but had to be halted because of the lockdown restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rai and his team resumed shooting in October at locations such as Delhi, Mumbai and Madurai. However, once the film was shot in December, Rai tested positive for COVID-19.
The upcoming film features a score by AR Rahman. Rai’s last film was Zero (2018) starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif.
