Ram Charan, Shankar team up for the first time for pan-India project

The film marks Shankar’s maiden collaboration with a Telugu star. Dil Raju will bankroll this project which is slated to take off soon.

Filmmaker Shankar and actor Ram Charan are set to join hands for an upcoming project to be released in five Indian languages. The film was officially announced yesterday.

This film marks Shankar’s maiden collaboration with a Telugu star. Dil Raju will bankroll this project on which work is set to begin soon. It will be the 50th production venture for Dil Raju.

Ram Charan tweeted: “Excited to be part of Shankar sir’s brilliance produced by Raju garu and Shirish garu.”

Speaking about the grand project, producer Dil Raju said in a statement, "It has been almost two decades since we started out producing movies. In this journey, our banner has made films with star heroes, budding and new actors and directors. We have won a permanent place in the hearts of the Telugu audience with our memorable movies.

“We are now glad to announce that our 50th movie will feature Ram Charan. This is going to be his 15th movie. Sensational director Shankar, who has taken South Indian movies to the next level in terms of both subjects and technical values, is going to wield the megaphone. This will be a pan-India project. Charan and Shankar coming together is definitely a massive thing.”

Currently busy with his father Chiranjeevi’s Acharya (2021), Ram Charan is expected to begin work on this project from the second half of this year.

Shankar, who had stopped shooting the Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2 early last year, is likely to put that project on the back burner to start work on this one.

Indian 2, which is bankrolled by Lyca Productions, also stars Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simhaa, Kajal Aggarwal and Priya Bhavani Shankar.

In February 2020, the shooting of Indian 2 came to a standstill after a freak accident involving a crane on the sets, which left three technicians dead.

Following the incident, the shoot was postponed indefinitely and it is rumoured that Kamal Haasan will only resume work on Indian 2 after completing his upcoming Tamil gangster thriller, Vikram (2021).

Ram Charan, on the other hand, recently wrapped up work on Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus RRR. The film also stars Jr NTR, Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt.
