Twitter India on Thursday unveiled its list of the voices, trends and moments that dominated 2021. In the entertainment space, South films such as Vijay's Master (2021) and Beast (2022), Ajith's Valimai (2022), Suriya's Jai Bhim (2021) and Pawan Kalyan's Vakeel Saab (2021) were the most tweeted movie hashtags.

However, Master is the only movie to have made it to the list of top 10 hashtags of the year.

This is the fourth year in a row that Vijay and his films have made it to the year-end list on Twitter.

In a blog post, Twitter India added that Vijay’s upcoming Tamil film Beast’s first-look tweet from the actor’s account was the most liked in the entertainment space.

Elaborating on the impact of Master's reach on Twitter, the post said, “Tamil cinema continued to dominate entertainment conversations on Twitter. Anticipation of the film #Master alone made it one of the most talked-about movies in 2020, and the trend continued with its release in 2021. The Vijay (@actorvijay) starrer received massive love from fans on Twitter once again this year, cementing its position on the list of most tweeted hashtags of 2021.”

In the most talked-about movies, once again Master topped the list. In second place was Ajith’s upcoming Tamil action thriller Valimai (2022). Vijay’s upcoming action-thriller Beast (2022) was placed in the third position, followed by Suriya’s critically acclaimed courtroom drama Jai Bhim and Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu remake of the acclaimed Hindi film Pink (2016).

"In 2021, entertainment enthusiasts waited eagerly for theatre releases as strong titles including Master and Vakeel Saab were scheduled to hit the market," Twitter said. "In fact, fans of Tamil and Telugu films dominated entertainment conversations on Twitter this year, as they have over the last two years."
